Quebec Broke Another Single-Day Record For New COVID-19 Cases

For the fourth day in a row, Quebec has reported over 2,000 new cases.

On December 22, the province reported that there were 2,183 new COVID-19 cases in Quebec. It's the fourth consecutive day that Quebec has reported over 2,000 new cases of COVID-19

Today also sets a new record in the province, with the highest number of new cases in a single day since the start of the pandemic.

2,183 New cases of COVID-19 in Quebec 

As the province grapples with trying to reduce the strain on its health care system, seven new COVID-19 patients were hospitalized, for a total of 1,055 patients in-hospital with COVID-19.

Intensive care units (ICUs) in the province saw a decrease of nine patients, for a total of 137 and Quebec reported 28 deaths on December 22, with 10 having occurred in the previous 24 hours. 

The province revealed that 437 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine were administered on Monday, as part of the rollout at 21 Quebec sites. This makes for a total of 5,273 vaccinated Quebecers — 2,110 of them in Montreal.

Those aged 20 to 29 still make up the largest proportion of COVID-19 cases in the province, at 15.4%. Those aged 40 to 49 trail closely behind at 14.8% of total COVID-19 cases in Quebec.
