The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) along with the Ministère de l'agriculture des pêcheries et de l'alimentation au Quebec (MAPAQ), have recalled several groceries sold across Canada for reasons that pose a serious health and safety risk to Canadian consumers.

In fact, two grocery items are being removed from the marketplace as they contain a dangerous bacteria that could be fatal following consumption. Further reasons for the food recalls in Canada include non-declared ingredients and foreign materials.

The CFIA is investigating the recall and is currently ensuring that the items are being properly removed from the marketplace. In the meantime, the federal health agency is recommending that consumers check to see if they have any of the affected items. if so, it's best to follow the steps indicated below.

Here are the seven recalled food items to look out for.

Recalled Food:

  • One World Food brand Cajun BBQ chicken burgers | 681 g | UPC 6 28451 59989 0

Recall Reason: According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the One World Foods brand Cajun BBQ Chicken Burgers was recalled due to undeclared egg and soy.

What You Need To Do: The burgers were sold across Ontario. According to the CFAA, consumers should "not use, sell, serve or distribute the affected product.

Atlantic salmon

  • Mowi Norwegian Atlantic Salmon | 113 g | UPC 8 19693 02546 3 | All units sold from March 27 up to April 10

Recall Reason: The affected product is being recalled from the marketplace because it may permit the growth of Clostridium botulinum, according to the federal health department.

What You Need To Do: If you suspect illness from a recalled product, contact your doctor, the CFIA says. Consumers should also check for recalled items and not consume, sell, or use them. In fact, if you do have the recalled product, you should dispose of it or return it immediately.

Food tainted with Clostridium botulinum may not show signs but can still harm you. Symptoms in adults may include facial paralysis, difficulty swallowing, and blurred vision. Children may experience difficulty swallowing and weakness. Botulism doesn't cause fever but can be fatal in severe cases.

Veggie burgers

Recall Reason: The affected product is being recalled from the marketplace because it contains gluten which is not declared on the label, per the CFIA.

What You Need To Do: Consumers should check for recalled items, per the CFIA. If you have celiac disease or gluten-related disorders, avoid consuming recalled products to prevent serious health risks. Furthermore, you should refrain from serving, using, selling, or distributing recalled items. In fact, if you do have any of the affected items, you should dispose of or return recalled products to the place of purchase.

Muffins

  • Lakeview Gluten-Free Bakery Morning Glory Muffins | 350 g | UPC 057882 400039

Recall Reason: Per the CFIA, the Lakeview Gluten-Free Bakery brand Morning Glory Muffins were recalled due to undeclared eggs.

What You Need To Do: The health department is urging Canadian consumers to "not use, sell, serve or distribute the affected product." Per Health Canada, when someone comes in contact with a food allergen or added sulphites, the symptoms of an allergic or allergic-type reaction may develop quickly and rapidly progress from mild to severe. The most severe form of an allergic reaction is called anaphylaxis, which includes symptoms such as breathing difficulties, a drop in blood pressure or shock, which may result in loss of consciousness and even death.

Enoki mushrooms

Recall Reason: Per the CFIA, the affected product is being recalled from the marketplace due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

What You Need To Do: According to the federal health agency, consumers should contact their doctor if they suspect illness from the recalled item. They should also check for recalled items and avoid consuming, serving, or selling them. Dispose of or return recalled products to the store. While Listeria contamination may not show signs of spoilage it can still cause vomiting, fever, and other symptoms.

Spaghetti sauce

  • Sauce spaghetti familial | All lots where wheat is not indicated on the packaging

Recall Reason: According to MAPAQ, the recalled product contains several allergenic substances without being mentioned on the label. The recalled spaghetti sauce was sold at 70, boul. Taché O., in Montmagny, Quebec.

What You Need To Do: Per the health agency, the warning applies only to people with a wheat allergy, celiac disease or other illness induced by the ingestion of gluten. In addition, anyone in possession of this product is advised not to consume it. They should return it to the store where it was purchased, or discard it.

Recall Reason: The recalled sushi products do not indicate the proper ingredients listed on their packaging. According to the MAPAQ, this warning applies only to people with an allergy to soy, wheat, fish, sulphites or eggs, or to those with celiac disease or another disease induced by the ingestion of gluten.

What You Need To Do: MAPAQ has indicated that anyone in possession of one of these products is advised not to consume it. They should either return it to the store where they purchased it or throw it away.
