Several Laptop Adapters Sold Across Canada Are Being Recalled Due To Fire Risk

Health Canada is currently recalling a Toshiba-brand laptop adapter that could lead to overheating and fire.
The consumer product recall was published on February 21, 2024, and involves over 65 different Toshiba adapter models, all of which have been sold and distributed across Canada at various retailers.
What You Need To Know: This recall involves tens of Toshiba-brand AC adapters that accompanied Toshiba-brand laptop computers (and were sold separately) that were imported by Toshiba Canada Limited and sold at various retailers in Canada between approximately April 1, 2008, and April 30, 2014.

With over 65 models of the Toshiba-brand AC adapters, it's important to check the list published on the recall page — where consumers can verify the model number, serial number and date code.
"The flame retardant used in manufacturing the components of the affected AC Adapters may lead to a potential of overheating or fire," Health Canada indicated.
The company estimates that approximately 1,289,270 affected AC Adapters were sold in Canada and 15.5 million in the United States.

What Is Being Done: As of February 2, 2024, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada. In the United States, the company Dynabook America, Inc. (“DBA”), an affiliated company to DCI that operates in the United States, has received 679 reports of potential incidents, and 43 reports of minor burns between 2010 to 2021.
Furthermore, Health Canada is now ensuring that the recalled products are properly being removed from the Canadian marketplace.

What You Need To Do: Per Health Canada, Canadian consumers should immediately dispose of all affected AC Adapters that remain in use and contact DCI for a free replacement AC adapter.
