Montreal saw upwards of 79.2 millimetres of rainfall on Wednesday, crushing Environment Canada's July 10 record of 32.5 millimetres in 1945. It was also the wettest day on record in more than 20 years.

Similar weather in Montreal is expected to continue through Thursday, with forecasters warning of heavy rain, between 15 and 25 millimetres, in the morning alone.

As the remnants of Hurricane Beryl touch down on our city, storms are wreaking havoc on the roads and power lines, leading to floods, the partial closure of the Décarie Expressway, trapped drivers and general chaos.

According to Transports Québec, in addition to the Décarie Expressway, sections of highways 40, 13 and the 520 (mainly ramps) were forced to shut down due to floods, and Météo Média reported that more than 4,000 Hydro-Québec customers in the Montreal and Montérégie regions were without power as of 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

If you've opted to stay home (or are lucky enough to be able to), congratulations! Because Montrealers who've been brave enough to face the elements have been capturing photos and videos of what it's like out there — and it does not look pretty. We've compiled a selection of footage below.

"More than 50 mm of water has already been recorded in the Montreal region, and road conditions are deteriorating," reads a Météo Média post shared to Instagram on July 10.

"Things are going well in Montreal today," writes Dany Gauthier Cloutier on Facebook, punctuating the caption to his photo with a laughing emoji. The image shows several cars driving — the tops of their wheels covered in water — on the Décarie Expressway. What do you think... Was Cloutier being sarcastic? Or just glad to have a valid excuse to be late for work?
