The Ministry of Education has added three extra ped days to the Quebec school year.

Education Minister Jean-François Roberge made the announcement Thursday morning.

In a press release, the ministry explains that the days were added "in order to promote students' academic success in the context of the pandemic."

School personnel will benefit from continuing training, which will promote the academic success of all students.

"This is an opportunity for school staff to improve their skills in new teaching methods [and] acquire new skills in connection with techno-pedagogical tools and distance education," among other things, the ministry said.

The three extra ped days apply to all preschool, elementary, and secondary school students.

Daycare services will be offered for free on those days for preschool and elementary school students in order to avoid "penalizing" parents.

The ped days will be planned by the schools themselves.

"Since the start of the pandemic, school staff have shown great professionalism in providing quality and safe educational support to all students in Quebec," said Roberge.
