Montreal Is Getting 2 Christmas Markets & An Enchanted 'Winter Garden' This Year

After a rousing success in 2019, Montreal's Atwater Christmas Market is coming back in 2020. But it won't be alone.

Montrealers will see locations around the city transform into festive winter wonderlands, a circuit organizers are calling "The Great Enchanted Tour of Montreal 2020."

In addition to the extremely popular Atwater Christmas Market, which will feature "a renewed offer of ethical, eco-responsible and quality local and regional products," the Jean-Talon Market is set to host its own festivities.

What motivates us for this Great Enchanted Tour is the desire to comfort Montrealers, in complete safety, and to support local commerce at a crucial time.

Line Basbous, Executive Director of Montreal’s  Christmas Village

A statement shared with MTL Blog promises an "authentic Christmas market" with "gastronomic discoveries and local crafts [...] in a fairy-tale atmosphere."

Finally, the holiday spirit will once again return to Place de Arts after a two-year hiatus.

The "Winter Gardens" will pop up on the Esplanade de la Place des Arts and on rue Sainte Catherine, where "residents and visitors of the city will discover a very special path that will lead them to the foot of a majestic Christmas tree, facing an incredible Alsatian decor as well as small chalets offering a  wonderful scenery."

A new website,, will guide Montrealers through all there is to explore this year.

"I salute these initiatives, which will inject a little magic into the daily lives of Montrealers during this special holiday season," Mayor Plante said.

"With the arrival of the cold weather, I am delighted that these ephemeral and lively facilities will be set up to warm hearts, provide a festive atmosphere for the population, and celebrate the northern nature of the city."
