Quebec Reported Its Second-Highest Number Of New COVID-19 Cases Since The Pandemic Began

On October 17, Quebec reported one of its highest numbers of new COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic in March. 

The province recorded a total of 1,279 new cases on Saturday, for a total of 92,297 coronavirus cases in Quebec.

The highest number of daily new cases on record occurred on October 6 when 1,364 were reported. 

The province has seen new COVID-19 cases rise for the last four consecutive days, after seeing a slight dip in cases on October 13, when the province reported a total of 844 new cases.

1,279 New COVID-19 cases reported in Quebec on October 17

Quebec says there were six new deaths in the province in the last 24 hours, with eight more that occurred between October 10 and 15 and one that occurred on an unknown date, for a total of 15 new COVID-19 deaths in Quebec. 

Since October 1, the number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Quebec has risen from 275 to 517 on October 17. The province has seen a steady increase in hospitalizations this past week. 

ICUs in the province saw two new COVID-19 patients on Saturday, for a total of 85 patients in intensive care units with COVID-19.

New projections released by the INESSS show that the province's ICUs are no longer at risk for overcapacity.  

Montreal added 291 new COVID-19 cases to its total and Laval added 92.
