Quebec reported 1,097 new cases of COVID-19 on October 10 — which means the province has seen more than 1,000 new cases for seven out of the past eight days.

The highest number this week was 1,364 new cases on October 5, and the lowest was 900 new cases on October 6.

Nevertheless, in a press conference on October 9, Premier François Legault said the preventative measures taken by Quebecers have contributed to a "certain stabilization."

"We are not going to 2,000," said Legault. "I don't have a crystal ball [but] that means the efforts that we've been making for the past week or two, well, they're yielding results."

The province reported 10 new deaths since October 3, and 11 new hospitalizations, for a total of 444 COVID-19 patients in hospital.

ICU patients increased by six, for a current total of 73 coronavirus patients in ICUs.

On Twitter, Legault reiterated his plea for Quebecers to cancel Thanksgiving this year.

"It will be tempting in the next few days to see people, friends and family. Resist the temptation and stay home. If we reduce the contagion, we will reduce the number of people hospitalized & we will save lives," he said.

"That's our mission this weekend."
