Montreal traffic will be extra hellish this weekend. The entire downtown stretch of Route 136 — i.e. the whole of the Ville-Marie and Viger Tunnels — will close to traffic between Friday night and Monday morning. And this could be just the beginning.

The Ministry of Transport states there will be further weekend closures as workers repair and shore up the Boulevard Saint-Laurent overpass. That project isn't scheduled to wrap up until 2024.

Two people, an 11-year-old and a 42-year-old, are dead after a collision involving several vehicles on Highway 30 in Brossard on the Montreal South Shore. At least 10 were sent to the hospital, eight with non-life-threatening injuries and two, a 16-year-old and 52-year-old, in critical condition. Officials currently fear for their lives.

The collision occurred on the highway's eastbound section near the Grande Allée exit shortly before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Two Montreal drivers are sitting with hefty fines after Sûreté du Québec officers caught them going well over the speed limit in unrelated incidents.

The first driver, an individual in their thirties was caught on Highway 40 near boulevard Henri-Bourassa on June 1. Police say they were going 180 km/h in an area where the posted speed limit is 100 km/h. They got slapped with a $1,546 fine and 14 demerit points as a result — plus a seven-day license suspension and the seizure of their vehicle.

The Sûreté du Québec is investigating after a shooting on Autoroute 40 in Montreal left a man in his 20s injured Friday morning. He was transported to the hospital but his life is not in danger, an SQ spokesperson told MTL Blog.

Part of the eastbound section of the highway was closed for a few hours to make way for a forensic team's sweep of the area. It reopened at around 6:30 a.m.
