As the holiday season fast approaches, you might be looking to change up your Christmas plans this year and travel somewhere bursting with holiday magic. Well, turns out the best places in the world to celebrate Christmas include two destinations right here in Quebec.

Condé Nast Traveler put together a list of the 32 Best Places to Spend Christmas Around The World and Montreal and Quebec City both made the cut.

"We’re all for cozying up with loved ones at home, but we also love seeing how cities around the world transform every December. The best places to spend Christmas, in our book, run the gamut from European towns with storybook Christmas markets to Asian megacities with over-the-top light displays — and even merry mainstays in the U.S." the travel publication wrote.

CN Traveler highlighted how Montreal offers travellers a European holiday without requiring a transatlantic flight. "With most of the cold-averse tourists flocking south for the winter, Canada's chicest city reveals its true personality with cozy French restaurants, high-end shopping and over-the-top festival," CN Traveler said. And they aren't wrong.

Montreal is home to countless Christmas markets, shops and holiday-themed festivals, including the upcoming outdoor music extravaganza, Igloofest. Not to mention a stroll through Montreal's Old Port during the wintertime is nothing short of magical.

Quebec City also made the list thanks to its French architecture, cobbled streets throughout the Old Town and the stunning Fairmount Château Frontenac. Travellers can enjoy the iconic Au 1884 Toboggan ride directly facing the most photographed hotel in the world, which remains open from mid-December until mid-March.

As for some of the best spots to stay in Quebec City, CN Travelers recommends the Aubuerge Saint-Antoine, which has been voted one of the best hotels in Canada. The esteemed hotel even offers a Christmas package that includes a five-course dinner, holiday movie screenings at the in-house theatre, and a personal visit from Santa in your room.

A few other notable cities that made the cut include Prague, Paris, London, New York City, Basel, and Berlin, to name a few.
