Laval law enforcement officers recovered a body near the shore of the Rivères des Prairies on Monday morning. 

Police received a call at around 7:30 a.m. after fishermen made the grim discovery, Narcity Quebec reports.

Photo shows fishermen in the Rivères des Prairies on Monday.

The body was found near the edge of the river on rue du Barrage in the Duvernay sector.

"It was fishermen who reported a body adrift to us," said Julie Marois of the Laval police department.

"The body was recovered by firefighters by boat."

The victim is said to be "a white male, approximately between 60-65 years old."

Laval police told Narcity that the identity of the person is currently unknown.

Law enforcement left the area at around 11:15 a.m., Narcity reports.

A major crime investigation is now underway.
