Quebec Just Broke Its Record For Most New COVID-19 Cases... Again

The previous record was only one day old.
Reporter

Quebec has recorded its highest ever number of new COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic. If this news sounds familiar, it's because the previous record high was just reported yesterday.

On October 6, the province announced 1,364 new cases overnight — up from 1,191 — amounting to 81,014 Quebecers affected by the virus.

The daily average cases for the past week is now 1,081, and it's the fifth day in a row that Quebec has recorded more than 1,000 new coronavirus cases.

Seventeen more people have died from the coronavirus since September 29, for a total of 5,899 deaths in the province. Public health officials say they've retracted two deaths from the total, which were found to be unrelated to COVID-19.

There have been 36 more hospitalizations in the last day, totalling 397 COVID-19 hospitalizations in the province.

Montreal added 442 new cases on October 6, totalling 35,938 cases in the city. Laval added 98 new cases, a sharp dip from the previous day's 173 cases, for a total of 7,779 cases in the region.

Those aged 20 to 29 are still the group with the highest proportion of COVID-19 cases in the province, at 16.3 percent of total cases.

The province has carried out over two and a half million COVID-19 tests. Approximately 3% of those tests have been positive.
