Quebec Reports Fewer Than 1,000 New COVID-19 Cases For The First Time In 5 Days

Young people aged 20 to 29 still make up the largest proportion of cases.

For the first time in five days, Quebec's daily count of new COVID-19 cases dropped below 1,000.

The government reported 900 new cases overnight on October 7, bringing the total number of people infected to 81,914.

The number of COVID-19 hospitalizations in the province also saw a sharp dip with 12 new hospitalizations, compared to October 6, when the government recorded 36 new hospitalizations.

900 New COVID-19 cases reported on October 7

The new hospital patients reported on October 7 come to a total of 409 COVID-19 hospitalizations in the province. 

Five intensive care patients have recovered from the virus and have left the province's ICUs, for a new total of 62 COVID-19 patients in Quebec ICUs.

Montreal added the most new cases of any Quebec region, with 269 cases of COVID-19.

Seven new deaths were reported by the government. One occurred over the past 24 hours, four occurred between September 30 and October 5, and two others occurred on unknown dates.

Young people aged 20 to 29 still make up the largest proportion of coronavirus cases at 16.4 percent, followed by people aged 40 to 49 at 14.6 percent.
