A Montreal Restaurant Was Ranked Among The Best In The World In 2024

Montreal's food scene has gained another accolade after a new restaurant was named one of the best global openings in 2024.

The World's 50 Best released a list of the Hottest Global Restaurant Openings for 2024 and only one Canadian restaurant made the cut and it just so happens to be right here in Montreal.

Montreal's Oncle Lee, a Chinese restaurant set to open in the Mile-End made the cut out of only eight entries — making it clear that this is one restaurant opening in Montreal you don't want to miss out on.

The new Montreal restaurant will be spearheaded by Andersen Lee, marking his very first solo venture. Per 50 Best, the 25-year-old chef has worked across the globe, most recently at Odette in Singapore, Quintonil in Mexico City and Core by Clare Smyth in London.

Now, Lee is "opening the place of his dreams," named Oncle Lee, a "late-night modern Chinese [restaurant] paying homage to his [Lee's] heritage."

Oncle Lee will serve dishes including black bean beef tartare, soy-marinated devilled eggs, scallops with XO sauce and crispy seafood chow mein. As for one dish that you cannot pass up, the World's 50 Best recommends the five-spice duck platter.

Oncle Lee is set to open its doors in mid-January at 222 Laurier Ouest.
