The Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal's Twitter page advised Montrealers to avoid the area after a third alarm rang on rue de Mentana and ave. du Mont-Royal E.

The warning signalled that a power outage was possible.

As of 3:45 p.m., Hydro Quebec's service interruption map indicated that 2,290 customers were without electricity in the area of the fire. The outage began at 3:17 p.m. and is expected to end by 6 p.m.

Police and the fire department have not yet publicly stated the cause of the fire. MTL Blog attempted to reach out to both departments for more information.
