Health Canada has published consumer product recall regarding a USB charger sold at IKEA stores across Canada due to burn and electric shock hazards.

The recall involves the following IKEA products:

  • IKEA ÅSKSTORM | 40W USB Charger | Dark Grey | Mode # ICPSW5-40-1 | Note that the model number can be found on the back of the charger.
A total of 10,268 units of the recalled IKEA USB charger were sold in Canada from April 2020 to December 2023.

Per Health Canada, "wear and tear of the power cable may pose thermal burn and shock hazards to consumers." As of January 3, 2024, IKEA has received no report of incidents or injuries in Canada. Globally, IKEA has received 17 reports where the power cable may have "been damaged or broken with us, some of which included reports of thermal burns and electric shock by consumers."

Health Canada is urging consumers to stop using the recalled product and return it to IKEA for a full refund. In this case, proof of purchase is not required in order to obtain a refund.

Consumers can contact IKEA by telephone at 1-800-661-9807, Monday to Sunday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm (EST) or visit IKEA Canada's website.

"Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada," the federal health agency indicated. In fact, Health Canada has a Consumer Product Incident Report Form for consumers to report any health or safety incidents related to products sold across Canada.
