While it may not technically be summer in Montreal just yet, Mother Nature certainly has other plans in store.

The Montreal weather forecast is calling for a heat wave next week with temperatures reaching as high as 35 degrees Celsius with humidex values cranking things up to a whopping 40.

In fact, Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Greater Montreal Area, stating that temps will rise significantly beginning next Tuesday, June 18. "Maximum temperatures between 30 and 35 C are expected," EnviroCan said.

Overnight lows should hover around the 20-degree C mark. However, Montrealers need to prepare for excessive humidity, too. According to the federal weather agency, humidex values could reach 40 in the afternoon.

The Weather Network estimates that humidex values could "feel like" 45 on Wednesday, June 19, which is an opportune moment to stay inside and as cool as possible.

Environment Canada is urging residents to watch out for heat-related impacts including heat exhaustion, and/or heat stroke. Health Canada says that the best way to prevent any heat-related health issues is to prepare.

"If you have an air conditioner, make sure it works properly. Find an air-conditioned spot close by where you can cool off for a few hours on very hot days. This will help you cope with the heat," the health agency says.

Furthermore, having drinks in your vehicles, and staying hydrated well throughout the day is also a great way to cool off quickly and beat the heat.

The heat wave is expected to last into next Thursday evening, June 20.

Stay safe, Montreal.
