Heading into the weekend, Premier François Legault, along with Health Minister Chrisitan Dubé, announced that they will decide whether or not to "add restrictions" in Quebec at the beginning of next week. 

Legault first suggested that he wouldn't rule out another lockdown in the province, similar to the one in March, at a press conference on December 8.

With the daily case numbers still high across the province, the government has warned the public that it would crack down even harder on rule-breakers.

In order to break the second wave, health authorities stressed that people must reduce contacts as much as possible. 

"If we want to reduce the contagion, we have to reduce our contacts," said Legault. 

"If people organize gatherings, it will ruin all the effects and all our efforts. We'll punish those who don't follow the rules."

On Monday, Quebec plans to begin vaccinating people against COVID-19. The first 4,000 doses will vaccinate 2,000 Quebecers.
