Amid skyrocketing numbers of cases and an increasing strain on the health network, Health Minister Christian Dubé announced that the government will begin allowing Quebec essential workers, including health care workers and employees from other essential fields, to continue working even if they test positive for COVID-19.

Dubé said the extraordinary measure would only be allowed "in certain cases" according to a "priority list and risk management" strategy. The government, he said, will release more details in the coming days.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Health Minister Christian Dubé cautioned that Quebec can probably expect to see cases rise in the month of September.

In an August 4 tweet, Premier François Legault said the province is set to announce new COVID-19 measures "in the coming days" as COVID-19 cases in Quebec rise in certain regions.

On Tuesday, Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé tweeted that the COVID-19 situation in Quebec's Mauricie region was "worrying," particularly among unvaccinated and partially-vaccinated 18- to 30-year-olds, as cases in Mauricie–Centre-du-Québec jumped from 17 to 146 between July 22 and August 2.

"The [rise in] cases is worrisome in Mauricie. The majority are 18-30 years old," Dubé tweeted. He said that among new cases,* "80% of these people have not received their 1st dose and none have received their 2nd dose."
