Breathtaking hues of red, orange, and gold will soon blanket landscapes around the world, but you don't need a passport to experience spectacular autumnal views. One Quebec destination — a short road trip away from Montreal — has just been named among the top five fall foliage spots in the country.

Flight aggregator and travel agency Skyscanner ranked the Laurentian Mountains as number two on a list of Canada's best places to see the leaves change colour in 2024.

More specifically, it recommends Parc National du Mont-Tremblant for optimal seasonal sightseeing — and it only takes about two hours to drive there from Montreal.

Each year, Mont-Tremblant, one of the highest peaks in the Laurentians, turns into a dazzling display of natural transformation as shades of ochre, yellow, crimson and more quietly take over the mountain-tops.

In addition to magical hikes, Mont-Tremblant's village and resort also offer seasonal activities to get you into the festive fall spirit. For instance, from September 14 to October 14, the Music and Colours event "combines the majestic autumn colours with the beauty of music every weekend," a press release says, with free concerts taking place throughout the afternoons.

You can admire the stunning scenery from a zip line, panoramic gondola, bike path or restaurant terrasse — all of which are easily accessible in Tremblant.

According to Skyscanner, peak leaf peeping time in the region is late September to October.

If you're itching to get out of the province this autumn, the number one spot on Skyscanner's "ultimate list of fall foliage destinations" is Algonquin Park, Ontario — specifically, the Highway 60 Corridor and Lookout Trail — about 260 kilometres west of Ottawa. You'll ideally want to plan your trip there between mid-September and the end of October, Skyscanner says.

For more fall getaway options, here's Skyscanner's full list of "Top Fall Foliage Destinations in Canada" for 2024:

  1. Algonquin Park, Ontario (Highway 60 Corridor, Lookout Trail)
  2. Laurentian Mountains, Quebec (Mont-Tremblant National Park)
  3. Cabot Trail, Nova Scotia (Cape Breton Highlands National Park)
  4. Prince Edward County, Ontario (Millennium Trail, Sandbanks Provincial Park)
  5. Fundy National Park, New Brunswick (Caribou Plain, Dickson Falls Trail)

Open to international travel? Skyscanner also rounded up the top five fall destinations abroad:

  1. Kyoto, Japan (Arashiyama, Kiyomizu Temple, Tofukuji Temple)
  2. Bavaria, Germany (Neuschwanstein Castle, Bavarian Alps)
  3. Seoul, South Korea (Namsan Park, Bukchon Hanok Village)
  4. Vermont, United States of America (Green Mountain Byway, Smugglers' Notch)
  5. Lake Bled, Slovenia (Lake Bled Castle, Vintgar Gorge)

Though technically across the U.S. border, Stowe, Vermont — aka "fall's colour capital" — is only two-and-a-half hours by car from Montreal, offering us another easy venue for making the most of this special season.
