The Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation au Quebec (MAPAQ) has fined several Montreal fast food restaurants over the past few months.

MAPAQ determined many of the restaurants were not operating by its health and safety standards, issuing heavy fines for improper food temperatures and storage, premise cleanliness and staff hygiene issues.

Here are the seven Montreal fast food spots to look out for.

Starbucks

A Starbucks in Montreal was fined $2,500 for not abiding by MAPAQ health standards. The infraction was given to the restaurant on September 6, 2023. However, the final judgment was decided on February 23, 2024, at Montreal Municipal Court.

The Montreal Starbucks in question is in Villeray, located at 180, boul. Cremate Est.

A second Starbucks in Montreal's Vaudreuil-Dorion also received a $1,000 fine. According to MAPAQ, the Starbucks, located at 41, boul de la Cite-des-Jeunes, was "not free of all species of animals, including rodents and insects, or their excrement." The judgment was made on February 21, 2024.

Poutineville

A Poutineville location in Montreal's Mile-End was also fined by the MAPAQ due to "pollutants" and "contaminants" as well as animal remains.

The restaurant, located at 5145, av. du Parc was fined a total of $3,300. The infraction was made back in 2022. However, the final judgement, in collaboration with the Montreal Municipal Court, was made on March 13, 2024.

Buffalo Bill Wings

The MAPAQ has issued a $3,000 fine to a Buffalo Bill Wings restaurant located in Montreal's South Shore. According to the provincial health department, the restaurant has served products that can be affected by heat without promptly cooling it or maintaining it consistently at an internal and ambient temperature not exceeding 4°C until it's delivered to the consumer."

The MAPAQ mentioned that this was a "repeat offence." The Palais de Justice de Quebec announced the final judgement on March 29, 2024.

Mont Tacos

The MAPAQ has fined a Mont Tacos restaurant in Ville-Saint-Laurent. The fine total was $2,000, which was finalized by the Montreal Municipal Court on February 19, 2024.

According to the health department, the Mont Tacos must be "free from contaminants, pollutants, any kind of animals including insects and rodents, or their excrements." The restaurant is located at 942, boul. Decarie.

The Java U café located within Montreal's YUL airport was fined $1,000 from the MAPAQ.

Per the MAPAQ report, "heat-alterable products, except whole fresh fruits and vegetables, must be promptly cooled and consistently kept at a maximum internal and ambient temperature of 4°C until they reach the consumer, except during necessary manufacturing processes or treatments recognized in the food industry that require higher temperatures."

The infraction was given on November 8, 2023 and was finalized by the Montreal Municipal Court on February 15, 2024.

Second Cup

The Second Cup located inside Montreal's Galeries D'Anjou was also fined by the MAPAQ. The café was hit with a $1,500 fine and must "be free from contaminants, pollutants, any kind of animals including insects and rodents, as well as their excrement."

The infraction was given on March 21, 2023. However, the Montreal Municipal Court finalized the judgement on April 11, 2024.

The Second Cup is located at 7999, boul. des Galeries-D'Anjou.

Harvey's

The MAPAQ has also fined a Harvey's in Quebec. The health department served the fast food restaurant with a fine of $500. According to the report, the Harvey's operated while "the premises, equipment, and materials used for the preparation, storage, and serving of products were not clean."

The inspection and infraction were given on June 6, 2023. However, the Palais de Justice de Quebec announced the final judgement on April 12, 2024.

The Harvey's is located at 729, rue Clemenceau in Quebec City.
