This Tim Hortons in Montreal was hit with a $3,500 health inspection fine

As of April 2024, a handful of Montreal restaurants, cafés and bars across the city have been slapped with inspection fines for health and safety risks to consumers including issues with sanitation, staff hygiene, food quality and preparation.

Following an inspection at a popular Tim Hortons location in Montreal, the Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation Quebec (MAPAQ) fined the Montreal café $3,500 for failing to meet the MAPAQ inspection team's quality control.

The Tim Hortons in Montreal has been added to the list of fined restaurants across Quebec on March 19, 2024. However, it is important to note that the inspection and fine were given on September 8, 2023.

What You Need To Know: The Montreal Tim Hortons that received the $3,500 fine is located at 8100, Boulevard Pie-IX, on the corner of Rue Jarry. The hefty fine was given via the MAPAQ and Montreal's Municipal Court.

According to the MAPAQ notice, the Tim Hortons on Pie-IX was hit with the fine due to failure to keep the restaurant clean and containment-free. "The place or vehicle must be free of contaminants, pollutants, all species of animals including insects and rodents and their excrement," the MAPAQ indicated.

In Case You Didn't Know: While the infraction was given last fall, there is often a delay between the fine and publishing the warning on the MAPAQ website. Nevertheless, the provincial health agency has assured Quebec residents that there is no longer a risk to their health.

"As soon as a violation is detected in an establishment, the operator must take the corrective measures requested by the inspector. If not, legal action may be taken as soon as the subsequent audit occurs. Inspectors then follow up to ensure that risk control is maintained at the facility," explains the Ministry.
