The Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation au Quebec (MAPAQ) has fined several Montreal fast food restaurants over the past few months.

MAPAQ determined many of the restaurants were not operating by its health and safety standards, issuing heavy fines for improper food temperatures and storage, premise cleanliness and staff hygiene issues.

Here are the six Montreal fast food spots to look out for.

On March 8, 2023, the MAPAQ fined a Basha located at 7234A, rue Hutchinson in Montreal's Parc-Ex borough. The restaurant was hit with a $1,200 fine, due to the presence of contaminants, pollutants and animal debris, per the MAPAQ report.

The final judgement was made on April 3, 2024, in collaboration with the Montreal Municipal Court. Per the Quebec health agency, the Basha owner has since ceased operations.

According to the MAPAQ, the "places, vehicles, equipment, materials and utensils used for the preparation, packaging, storage, transportation, labelling and serving of products, as well as other sanitary facilities, must be clean."

The initial inspection was on May 15, 2023, and the final judgement was made on March 18, 2024.

A Quebec City-based Copper Branch location was hit with a $2,500 fine from the MAPAQ on November 28, 2022. Per the report, the restaurant was fined as "a detainee intending to sell a product intended for human consumption that was unfit for consumption (due to health risk)."

The Copper Branch restaurant is located at 2700, boul. Laurier. However, according to the MAPAQ, the location has been permanently closed.

The initial visit took place on May 4, 2023. However, it was not finalized by the Palais de Justice de Quebec until March 21, 2024.

The KFC is located at 1689, boul. des Laurentides in Laval.

The Montreal Starbucks that received the $2,500 fine is located at 180, boul. Crémazie E., bordering the Trans-Canada Highway. The fine was given via the MAPAQ and Montreal's Municipal Court.

According to the notice, the Montreal Starbucks on Crémazie received the fine due to failure to keep the restaurant clean. "The premises or vehicle must be free of contaminants, pollutants, any species of animal, including insects and rodents, or their excrement," the MAPAQ indicated.

While the infraction was given last fall, there is often a delay between the fine and publishing the warning on the MAPAQ website. Nevertheless, the provincial health agency has assured Quebec residents that there is no longer a risk to their health.

According to the report, the Harvey's operated while "the premises, equipment, and materials used for the preparation, storage, and serving of products were not clean."

The inspection and infraction were given on June 6, 2023. However, the Palais de Justice de Quebec announced the final judgement on April 12, 2024.

The Harvey's is located at 729, rue Clemenceau in Quebec City.
