Several Meat & Dairy Products Sold Across Quebec Have Been Recalled — Check Your Fridge ASAP

The Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation (MAPAQ) has recalled several meat and dairy products that have been sold in grocery stores across Quebec.

The food recall involves grocery items that are being removed from the Quebec marketplace due to the presence of metal pieces, undeclared ingredients and potential listeria and E. coli outbreaks, to name a few.

The MAPAQ is urging Canadian consumers to verify if they have any of the recalled items listed below, if so, it's recommended to not serve, sell, distribute or consume the affected items. In fact, the provincial agency suggests tossing the products out immediately or returning them to the point of purchase.

Here are the recalled meat and dairy products sold in Quebec to look out for:

Chicken Sandwich

• Chicken Sandwich on whole wheat bread | By unit | Best Before: February 25, 2024

Recall Reason: The Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation, in collaboration with the grocery company Avril, located at 2600, boulevard Laurier, local 005, in Quebec City, advises the public not to consume the product indicated in the table below, as it may contain E. coli bacteria.

What You Need To Do: Per the MAPAQ, anyone in possession of the product is advised not to consume it. They should return it to the establishment where they purchased it, or throw it away.

Marinated Tongue

• Tongue marinated in vinegar | By unit | Sold until February 21, 2024

Recall Reason: The Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation in collaboration with Au Jour Le Jour Inc. located at 180 Route 343, Saint-Ambroise-de-Kildare, advises the public not to consume the marinated tongues if it has not been kept refrigerated at all times since the time of purchase. The product label does not include the required "Keep refrigerated" information for safe consumption.

What You Need To Do: Per the MAPAQ, consumers in possession of this product who have not kept it refrigerated at all times since purchase are advised not to consume it. They should return it to the store where it was purchased, or discard it. Even if the product in question does not show any signs of spoilage or suspect odours, its consumption may represent a health risk.

Auberge l'Amarré Cheese

• Cheddar Perron & Pied De Vent | By Unit | Sold up until February 26, 2024

Recall Reason: The Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation in collaboration with Auberge l'Amarré Inc., located at 30, 1re Avenue Est, in Saint-Maxime-du-Mont-Louis, is warning people considered vulnerable (pregnant women, people with weakened immune systems, children under 5 and the elderly) not to consume the dairy products listed above as they do not bear the required "made with unpasteurized milk" label. In fact, the retailer failed to transcribe the manufacturer's information on the labels.

What You Need To Do: Consumers deemed vulnerable as described by the MAPAQ who have any of these products in their possession are advised not to consume them. They should return it to the establishment where it was purchased, use it in a cooked dish until it reaches a safe cooking temperature of 74°C, or discard it.

Recall Reason: The Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation in collaboration with the City of Montreal's Food Inspection Division and Intermarché Lagoria Viau Inc., located at 8530 boul Viau in Montreal — advises people with a soy, sulphite or peanut allergy, or those with celiac disease or another disease induced by the ingestion of gluten, not to consume the yogurt product with honey and granola as it may contain these allergenic substances without being mentioned on the label.

What You Need To Do: Consumers who have the recalled product are advised not to consume it. They should either return it to the store where they purchased it or throw it away, per the MAPAQ.

Recall Reason: The Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation in collaboration with the Division de l'inspection des aliments de la Ville de Montréal and Marché Al-Hilal, located at 3680, rue Fleury E., in Montreal, advises people with an allergy to eggs, sesame, wheat or soy not to consume the chicken burgers above as the product contains these allergenic substances, which are not mentioned on the label.

What You Need To Do: Per the MAPAQ, this recall warning applies only to people with an allergy to eggs, sesame, wheat or soy. In addition, anyone in possession of this product is advised not to consume it. They should return it to the store where they purchased it, or throw it away.

What You Need To Do: Any consumer in possession of one of these cheese products is advised not to consume it. They must return it to the establishment where they purchased it, or throw it away. It should be noted that no cases of injury associated with the consumption of these foods have been reported to MAPAQ to date.

This warning stems from the food recall issued on January 19, 2024, which reported the possible presence of metal particles in various dairy products prepared and sold by Laiterie Royala.
