In a meeting on December 9, 2020, the Montreal City Council voted down an amendment that would have funded body cameras for Montreal police officers. The defeat of the proposal — by a vote of 34 to 27 — was just the latest turn of events in the years-long, zigzagging effort to make the cameras part of the SPVM uniform.

Centaur Theatre has put out a call for submissions for an Indigenous artist in residency, who is invited to "[tell] stories that reflect the Indigenous heritage of the Island of Montreal and the Province of Quebec."

Working with the Conseil des arts de Montréal (CAM) and Indigenous artist Charles Bender, the theatre hopes to provide the opportunity for a local artist to workshop and develop a new piece that adds to an important larger conversation.

We've all encountered a Mégane — that bubble-gum smacking, eye-rolling customer service agent who really shouldn't be anywhere near customers. But now, at last, it seems Mégane has another career option: TikTok celebrity.

The viral TikTok character is the creation of Montrealer Ophélie Jacques, 17, (fifidonthavealife on TikTok) who told MTL Blog that the hilarious and perpetually-annoyed retail and call centre worker started as a joke with a friend.

On Monday, October 12, three Montreal men placed a series of calls to the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) reporting a possible abduction in a car. After further investigation by police, it was deemed that three calls were connected and that there was no kidnapping.

The calls turned out to be a hoax about "mock abductions."

Due to their for their alleged misconduct in handling her harassment case late last year, a Concordia PhD student is filing two ethical complaints against five Montreal police officers.

Anna, which is the name being used in the official release and not her real name, went to the SPVM following months of harassment by a man, who she said made her feel unsafe. She claims that the officers involved ignored her, laughed at her and refused to offer her support.
