The Royal Canadian Mint has unveiled a brand new coin commemorating the 150th anniversary of Canadian author L. M. Montgomery, the creator of Anne of Green Gables.

The new loonie is the first ever Canadian circulation coin to feature an author on its reverse. Now, collectors can purchase a special wrap roll containing 25 coins with the same engraved view of the L. M. Montgomery.

The Royal Canadian Mint has unveiled a brand new $30 coin inspired by a Canadian artist's piece depicting bison in their natural habitat.

The two-ounce fine silver coin, titled Weather Watch – Bison by Robert Bateman, pays homage to the Canadian icon, by featuring an engraved rendering of Bateman's famous piece.

The iconic loonie, which features a Canadian loon on the reverse of the original gold coin, first began circulating across Canada in 1987, after replacing the Canadian one-dollar bill. While the $1 coin is still very much in circulation, the Royal Canadian Mint released a new $1 coin made up of 99.99% pure silver.

The Royal Canadian Mint has officially unveiled the newest effigy of King Charles III for the very first time, which will be featured on the obverse of Canadian coins.

Following the death of the late Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles III became Canada's newest monarch, and with a new royal head came a newly designed effigy. "The process to create a new design for the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III was complex and involved many steps," the Royal Canadian Mint said.
