From minimalist vibes, a top-tier range of roasts and talented baristas all the way to eccentric decor and menus worth raving about, these nine Montreal cafés should be on every visitor's list in 2024.
Améa Café
Where: 1188 rue Sherbrooke O., Montreal, QC
Why You Need To Do: Located inside the historic Maison Alcan building in Montreal's Golden Square Mile, Améa Café has built up a reputation for its somewhat outrageous croissants laden with pistachio or Nutella. However, if you're visiting for the first time, make it a brunch date considering Améa serves up a Mediterranean menu unlike anywhere else. A few of Chef Mike Coppa's remarkable dishes include the brioche French toast with pistachio whipped ricotta and strawberries, tangy shakshuka, croque mademoiselle and lemon ricotta crespelle topped with blueberry jam.
Café Americano
Where: 957 rue Mont-Royal E., Montreal, QC
Why You Need To Do: Located in Montreal's Plateau-Mont-Royal neighbourhood, Americano is an eclectic spot with a wide range of beverages, both hot and cold, including their delish espresso, lattés, and of course, Americano. Now, while their brew is next level, the sandwiches are a definite must-try. Americano offers mouthwatering Italian-inspired sandwiches that are a treat for both the eyes and stomach. From the classic turkey, capicollo and mortadella options, to the spicy sausage, and chicken parmesan sandwiches, you really can't go wrong.
Bah! Café
Where: 857 rue Marie-Anne E., Montreal, QC
Why You Need To Do: Bah! Café is new to the Montreal scene. After opening its doors in the fall of 2023, Bah! Café has become a hot spot in Montreal's Plateau serving Brazilian coffee and desserts. For those hoping to get a taste of Brazil, the Pão de Queijo should be on the top of your list. As if the cheesy bread weren't enough, Bah! offers generous seating and laptop-friendly workspaces, too.
Maman
Where: 1524 rue Notre-Dame O., Montreal, QC
Why You Need To Do: This iconic Montreal café is known for its many sweet treats that are on display as soon as you walk in. Now, while the charming, green and rustic vibes are ideal for a cozy café day, Maman is known for more than just its menu. The Montreal restaurant has also been the backdrop to a few movies and TV shows, including Single All The Way on Netflix, which was filmed at Maman.
SoLIT Café
Where: 2030 rue Mansfield, Montreal, QC
Why You Need To Do: Located in the heart of downtown Montreal, SoLIT Café is known for its dangling lights, vines and oranges that hang from the ceiling, leaving you completely dazzled by the oasis of glistening citrus right when you walk in.
