In case you haven't heard, employees from the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) will soon kick off their third major strike of 2025.

This time, maintenance employees will walk off the job from November 1 to 28. The job action will seriously limit metro and bus service outside of rush hours, much like the previous strikes in June and September.

According to the STM and the Tribunal administratif du travail's essential services ruling, trains will only run during morning and afternoon rush hours, with limited late-night departures until the network closes around 1:15 a.m. The strike will be in effect every day, including weekends.

When the strike is happening

  • Start date: November 1, 2025
  • End date: November 28, 2025
  • Workers involved: 2,400 maintenance employees represented by the Syndicat du transport de Montréal–CSN
  • Schedule impact: Reduced service outside of rush hours, daily (including weekends)

A separate three-day strike by STM drivers and metro operators is also scheduled for November 1, 15, and 16, overlapping with this one and expected to cause additional disruptions.

Metro hours during the STM strike

According to the STM, metro trains will only operate during the following windows:

  • Morning rush: 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
  • Afternoon rush: 2:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
  • Late evening: 11:00 p.m. to closure (around 1:15 a.m.)

Outside these periods, service will gradually shut down by line and station. Below are the official last train times for each direction and line from November 1 to 28, provided by the STM.

Bus service schedule

During the strike, buses will operate on a limited schedule similar to the metro:

  • Regular service between 6:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.
  • No departure between 9:15 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • Regular service between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
  • No departure between 6 p.m. and 11:15 p.m.
  • Regular service between 11:15 p.m. and 1:15 a.m.
  • No departure between 1:15 a.m. and 6:15 a.m.

Negotiations are still underway, which means the strike could end earlier than expected. But unless a last-minute deal is reached, Montrealers should prepare to adjust their commute schedules.
