pointe-aux-trembles

Montreal is a city of dense but distinct neighbourhoods, each with its own vibe and culture, history and personality. This eclectic urban patchwork has given rise to neighbourhood stereotypes, some misguided but most good-humoured, painfully effective jabs at some of our zaniest collective traits.

A recent Reddit post (shared here with permission) by Los Angeles resident Mark Rad (u/Persianx6) sought to expose Montrealers' perceptions of their neighbours, asking users to "imagine each neighbourhood in Montreal is a guest at a massive house party" and describe their behaviour.

After the original plans for the so-called Montreal REM de l'Est fell apart, a group is proposing a new light-rail line with a slightly different path — a path that resembles Mayor Valérie Plante's signature proposal for a "pink" metro line.

The borough of Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles is partnering with the suburbs of Repentigny and Varennes to offer "bike shuttles" across the river this summer. The annual program allows cyclists to explore parks and bike paths at the tip of Montreal Island and on the North and South Shores.

The shuttle boats will make five trips daily between the Antoine-Beaudry house in Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles, the Parc de la Commune in Varennes and the Parc Saint-Laurent in Repentigny.

Authorities suspect that a restaurant fire in Pointe-aux-Trembles may have been intentionally set by an arsonist. Firefighters responded to a call on the morning of March 6 on boulevard Saint-Jean-Baptiste.

The Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM) has released their official opinion about the REM de l'Est. They say the light-rail network wouldn't attract enough users to be worth the initial cost of building it, let alone the costs to maintain it.

The first reason cited for their decision was that the new rail wouldn't adequately meet the needs of the communities of Montreal's East End. The REM de l'Est would link Montréal-Nord and Pointe-aux-Trembles to the centre of the city via two branches that would converge in Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve and then run roughly parallel to the STM's green line to boulevard Robert-Bourassa.
