On Monday, May 31, Quebec recorded its lowest number of new COVID-19 cases since September 2020. The news comes as the province pushes ahead with its gradual reopening plan.

The government reported 276 new cases on May 31. According to data from the Institut national de santé publique (INSPQ), the province previously hadn't seen fewer than 300 new cases since September 14, 2020.

Teetering on the brink of another sad pandemic milestone, Quebec reported 9,999 total COVID-19 deaths, after withdrawing one death that an investigation found was not attributable to the novel coronavirus. 

On the bright side, Quebec's COVID-19 hospitalizations took a dip, with the province recording a decrease of 58 patients on February 5, bringing the current total to 982. We haven't seen COVID-19 hospitalizations dip below 1,000 since December

The province has reported fewer than 2,000 daily COVID-19 cases in Quebec for almost a week now, after frequently reporting more than 2,000 new cases per day — and sometimes more than 3,000 — over the past month or so. 

Quebec recorded 1,631 new COVID-19 cases on January 21, marking the sixth consecutive day that new cases of the virus have remained below 2,000.
