Good news, everybody! Winter's finally over, according to Environment Canada. It was a really dismal winter, what with the extreme cold and the Omicron variant sweeping through the province, but Montreal weather in April is projected to be considerably warmer (and, we hope, less defined by COVID-19).

The weather in March was kind of all over the place, but that's to be expected at this time of year. "If we look at the temperatures we had, they're really close to normal," said Simon Legault, meteorologist with Environment Canada.

February's weather was... extra. We had snow. We had freezing rain. We had regular rain. Heck, we even had fog — remember that? Luckily, the month ahead is looking to be way more basic. Here's what to expect from Montreal weather in March.

On average, the Island of Montreal and the surrounding areas saw 55 centimetres of snow come down this month, according to Environment Canada meteorologist André Cantin. We had 49 millimetres of rain, which was a lot — the average for February is only 20.9 millimetres. Despite some truly frigid days, the average temperature for the month was -7.5 C, which is actually above the typical average of -7.7 C.

While the spring weather in 2022 is looking up, today certainly isn't as Montreal experiences more snowfall. Following the erratic weather in Montreal over the past couple of weeks, including fog and freezing rain, Montreal can expect up to 10 centimetres of snow today.

Environment Canada released a snowfall alert for Montreal, along with the Châteauguay-La Prairie area, Laval, and Longueuil regions. It will begin snowing in the morning and likely continue throughout the day.

Just as Montrealers were getting used to summer-like weather, the province was hit with the s-word — that's right: it's been snowing across Quebec all day.

It's not like it's never snowed here in April before. But after a number of 20-degree days (or warmer), we're simply not having it. As we looked up at the sky and cursed the heavens, asking, "Why the f*** is this happening?" we decided it would be more productive to ask actual experts the same question.

While we've been enjoying unseasonably glorious weather in Montreal, true Montrealers have been holding their breath, knowing from experience that good weather can change on a dime — especially in April.

As much as we were hoping winter was completely behind us, there is a chance that it could snow a little in Montreal next week. Ugh.

Anthony Bourdain may have said it best: "This is a great country because of this city. Without Montreal, Canada would be hopeless." So what is it about Montreal that's so special and unique?

Here are 12 things we do differently in Montreal compared to almost every other city.

Although it sounds like the plot of a Parks & Recreation episode, officials plan to spend over $60,000 to rent snowmaking machines in Montreal's Rosemont–La-Petite-Patrie borough this winter.

According to a document obtained by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation and shared with MTL Blog, borough officials contracted Snö Innovation Inc to carry out snowmaking operations at Père-Marquette, Joseph-Paré, Lafond and Pélican parks.

Making a little extra spending money can always be useful and when it comes to side jobs in Montreal, there are probably way more options than you think out there.

You just need to get creative!

Despite a relatively mild and slow start to this winter season, Montrealers are delighted to see their city finally covered in successive waves of freshly-fallen, silent shrouds of snow. But unlike Paul Simon, we are not rocks or islands, and we can't fight the urge to get out there and break the surface of this immaculate, powdery blanket as we roll around in it. After all, we northerners enjoy filling our lungs with fresh air, as much as filling our phone's memories.

But as we begin the new year with another quarantine, you might be wondering how you can take advantage of this most magical season and still follow restrictions.

The City of Montreal has launched a snowman building contest and you can win cold hard cash (in the form of a gift card).

“The principle is simple: roll, model, shape, photograph, participate and invite your friends to vote,” stated the city.

No matter how old you are, there's something just magical about a massive snowfall. And Saturday's storm in Montreal, OH baby (or should I say SNOW baby?), was no exception.

Some love to watch it from the inside, while others want to get out there and play like they did when they were kids. The opportunities for fun are endless, but one of my favourites is seeing how creative people can get with making the most amazing sculptures. Here are some of the most creative!
