Quebec's red-rock lined rivière Bonaventure is a jewel of the Gaspésie region, a ribbon of turquoise unspooling through the famed peninsula's pine and maple forests on its way to the Baie des Chaleurs. The blue-green hue of its clear waters attracts thousands of visitors every summer.

Many of them — over 24,000 in the summer of 2022 — flock to Cime Aventures, a campground and boat rental service about eight kilometres upstream from the river's mouth.

Plopped between the great green ridges of Canada's Forillon National Park and the wide-open waters of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, this Quebec home for sale is an unassuming dot on the wildflower-covered shore. But it presents a potentially life-changing opportunity: an escape to seaside seclusion in one of the most beautiful corners of the province at the tip of the Gaspé peninsula.

The four-bedroom, one-bathroom house is on the market for $359,000.

Quebec's Ministry of Public Security sent out a provincewide alert about an "armed and dangerous suspect" in the town of Saint-Elzéar in Quebec's Gaspésie region.

A 3:27 p.m. tweet from the Sûreté du Québec (misstating the town name) indicated the suspect was near the intersection of chemin Central and Route de l'Est. The provincial police force warned nearby residents to lock their doors and stay away from windows.

Veuillez attacher votre ceinture et ranger la tablette. Starting Wednesday, June 1, there are new options for cheap flights within Quebec. The government is collaborating with six airlines to cap the price of certain trips from Montreal, Quebec City and Saint-Hubert to select destinations in outlying regions. Eligible tickets will be $250 one-way and $500 round-trip.

The measure is part of a program first announced in April to reduce the cost of air travel to more remote areas and encourage tourism.

The provincial government has announced a plan to make flights within Quebec cheaper and promote air service to more remote destinations. The plan includes a $500 limit on the price of round-trip intra-Quebec flights to select destinations in outlying regions. That price cap will take effect in the summer of 2022 once government subsidies kick in.

Following the announcement, the government released a map of the eligible air routes. They include direct flights from Montreal or Saint-Hubert to Mont-Joli in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region, Saguenay, Baie-Comeau, Sept-Îles, Chibougamau in the Nord-du-Québec region, Val-d'Or, Rouyn-Noranda, and, perhaps most excitingly, the Îles-de-la-Madeleine.

The [ÈST] Éco-cabines glamping site in Quebec's Gaspésie region is a destination for those seeking some luxurious solitude this summer. On offer are cozy modern cabins for two tucked away in the woods and a new spa that's only available to guests in private three-hour windows.

The concept eliminates the worst part of the spa experience: crossing paths with loud dripping wet strangers. The private reservation means you can carelessly wander between the baths before retreating to your isolated accommodation.

The emerald river and waterfall hidden in the woods of Percé's eponymous Parc de la Rivière Émeraude is an easy hike for anyone travelling through eastern Quebec. The shallow stream at the tip of Quebec's Gaspésie region gets its enchanting deep green hue from the rocks at its bottom, according to the regional tourism website.

The spot where the river trickles over a low outcrop into a wide natural pool is a popular summer destination for photo-seekers.

Sépaq has enhanced the experience at several of its parks and reserves ahead of summer 2022. In addition to a new cliffside lookout in the Parc national des Monts-Valin, the society has also installed new rest areas with stunning views in the Gaspésie region's Réserve faunique de Matane.

The two new platforms are near the Auberge de montage des Chic‑Chocs, an isolated four-star mountain lodge that sits atop a mountain crest in what Sépaq calls the heart of the reserve.

Leave the caribou alone! That's the message from the Government of Quebec in a December 15 news release warning the public of the adverse health effects human activity could have on the animals, especially a population of what are called mountain caribou, an ecotype of the woodland caribou that can be found in the highlands of the Gaspé Peninsula.

The Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks (MFFP) says the Gaspé mountain caribou have been considered threatened in the province since 2009 and represent the "last vestige" of a population that used to span eastern Canada and the northeastern United States.
