Montreal’s Marché Asiatique, taking place in Chinatown and running Thursday to Sunday until October 2, has a not-so-secret double life. For two weekends this summer, the spot will turn into a full-on night market with over 20 participating food vendors.

The night market will run from July 28 to 31 and August 25 to 28 at the same location as the Marché Asiatique, at the Place des souhaits. Vendors will include beverage store Yifang Fruit Tea and Zoe Dessert, which serves sweet treats including bubble waffles and shaved ice.

Montreal's Chinatown has a new ephemeral outdoor square with Asian street food kiosks, a bar, and ample seating to enjoy the festive atmosphere. Every Thursday to Sunday, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Montrealers can try dishes from Hoho Street Food (Chinese), Egina BBQ (Mongolian) and World Tea House (Chinese) restaurants.

The average cost of eats is under $10. You can munch on cold noodles ($7) or sip a fruity iced tea ($3-4) under a canopy of red lanterns. A central bar also serves beer ($5-7), sangria ($6) and non-alcoholic options, like lemonade ($2.50).

The plan released on May 24 includes the installation of eight public urban "oases" and the already-announced pedestrianization of some of Ville-Marie's major commercial arteries.

It also highlights the return of popular summer festivals and events, including the Jardins Gamelin outdoor bar and venue on May 26, the free performances (featuring 52-foot giants) of Montréal complètement cirque from July 7 to 17, and the second edition of the Shoni Market, billed in a press release as the "largest Asian food market in North America," from September 8 to 11.
