Fall is officially here, and Quebec's weather is already switching gears. After an impressive 15-day dry streak, rain has returned to Montreal and much of the province, putting an end to the longest dry spell of the year.

According to The Weather Network (TWN), Quebec's sunny, rain-free days have finally come to an end as rain showers spread across southern Quebec this morning and will continue throughout the day, with on-and-off rainfall expected through midweek. The arrival of this wet weather marks a noticeable shift from the warm, dry conditions that had us clinging to summer for just a bit longer last week.

July 1 is fast approaching, and while that means Canada Day festivities for most of the country — it's also officially unofficial moving day here in la belle province.

Spring is officially in full force in Montreal, but y'know what that means? April showers! While it might bring about May flowers come next month, the wet Montreal weather forecast just isn't sitting right with us any longer.

A lot of precipitation is set to hit the province, with freezing rain and up to 25 centimetres of snow predicted for some areas.

"A weather system centered over the Great Lakes will affect the province of Quebec this weekend," Environment Canada said.

This winter has certainly been delivering tons of snow, and today's Montreal weather is no different. A snow squall watch is currently in effect for the Montreal metropolitan area, and this could seriously impact driving conditions.

Environment Canada released the alert earlier this morning, warning the public of a possible snow squall in Montreal later this afternoon. "Weather conditions are favourable for the development of snow squalls this afternoon," they said.

Winter weather is throwing Montreal yet another curveball. Environment Canada has issued a weather warning for Montreal and many surrounding areas, saying a flash freeze is headed our way Saturday afternoon.

"Temperatures will drop rapidly this afternoon or early this evening," Environment Canada said. "Puddles, wet snow and any additional precipitation will freeze as temperatures drop."

The Weather Network just dropped a new October weather forecast for Quebec and "warmer than normal temperatures are expected to dominate" all month long, according to meteorologist Doug Gillham.

"October is looking suspiciously like September," Gillham said, which — if you've been paying attention — has been nice and mild.
