Professors aren't exactly known for their wealth nor their earning potential. The teaching track is only truly profitable, some might say, if you're looking to step out of academics and into administration at some point in your future. It's hard to imagine who wouldn't opt into a high six-figure salary in these economic times, and we have the data to prove that Montreal's university head honchos (as it were — we're talking principals, rectors, chancellors and deans, among others) are earning more than enough to justify the upwards climb.

After all, university is expensive in this province, especially if you're not a born Quebecer. But to the average student, where all that tuition money goes might seem like a mystery known only to the bureaucracy inside each institution. Some of it goes to student life and activities, some to ensure the functioning of the school, and a sizeable chunk funnels straight into the coffers of the highest-level administrators, including (but certainly not limited to) principals, rectors and chancellors.

Participants anonymously rated their companies based on criteria such as age, gender, ethnicity, disability and LGBTQ+ equality, as well as diversity overall.

Montreal is entering a new era where clear skies have been replaced with smoky horizons. What was once a distant future concern has turned into a hot reality. Giant swaths of Quebec forests are burning and Montreal even held the unfortunate distinction of having the most polluted air in the world at the start of July.

The global climate is warming too, and you can feel it. Earth's hottest day ever was just recorded this week… three days in a row.

A new participatory mapping project reveals that one in three Montrealers believe their appearance or identity has contributed to being stopped by the police.

STOPMTL compiled data from the public to determine who the police stop the most and where. The project, launched in 2021 by a team from the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS), McGill University, Concordia University and University College London, documents the "social and spatial patterns" of local police interventions since only 5 to 20% of stops are recorded by the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).

The major service interruption will continue for an "indefinite period," extending as far as Lionel-Groulx and Frontenac stations.

The transit service says the closure is a preventative measure while engineering teams investigate the severity of the situation. The city has also closed de Maisonneuve Boulevard between Berri and Saint-Laurent metro stations "until further notice," while the underground inspection is underway.
