montreal temperature

Montreal is about to sweat buckets with its first scorcher of the year. Environment Canada is warning residents that the next few days may feel like living in a sauna.

The mercury this week is set to skyrocket past the 30-degree mark for at least three days straight.

Montreal has passed the point of no return. Days are longer. Temperatures are rising. Flowers are blooming and with them, the prospect of summer revelry bursts into vivid focus. But could a wet July dampen our outlook? That's what the Farmers' Almanac seems to suggest.

As Narcity Québec reports, the site's July weather forecast for Quebec and the Maritimes calls for successive periods of rain and storms with the only reliably nice weather at the very beginning and end of the month.

Montreal is in for four straight days of warm, sunny weather this week, according to Environment Canada. Whether it's a blip, a typical deviation in Montreal's capricious spring weather patterns, or a harbinger of an incoming climate apocalypse, Montrealers are sure to enjoy the first taste of summery temperatures.

Thursday, April 13, could be the warmest day of the week. EnviroCan forecasts an actual high temperature of 24 C and a humidex value of 27 (meaning it could feel like 27 degrees with humidity).

The April 5 ice storm may have been winter's final outburst — at least we can hope. Environment Canada's Montreal weather forecast for the week of April 10 shows temperatures peaking at 20 C or above on three days in a row: Thursday, April 13, Friday, April 14, and Saturday, April 15 — just in time for the scheduled launch of the 2023 BIXI season.

Perhaps more exciting is that nighttime lows aren't forecast to dip below 6 C. On Thursday night, temperatures might remain in the double-digit positives.

Slush. The scent of long-buried dog poop. Mushy Tim Hortons litter. So much gravel. It's spring in Montreal, and the weather forecast is starting to reflect it. The seven-day outlook shows a volatile mix of conditions with temperatures finally — occasionally — shooting up, even pushing double-digits (both positive and negative. But we're focusing on the positive.).

The highest temperatures of the week are forecast for Wednesday, March 29, and Saturday, April 1: 8 C and 9 C, respectively, per Environment Canada. Those would be the warmest days of the year so far.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for much of southwestern Quebec, including Montreal. The announcement comes ahead of what it says is a low-pressure system that could bring an early-spring-like "mix of precipitation" by the end of the week. Looks like Montreal weather is about to get gross.

The federal weather department is currently forecasting freezing rain, but the system and accompanying temperatures so far are casting some doubt on that assessment. The seven-day forecast for Montreal shows temperatures swinging from daytime highs of 4 C on Wednesday and Thursday and -3 C on Friday, to a frigid Friday nighttime low of -14 C.

Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for Montreal ahead of what it says could be two to five millimetres of ice accumulation.

The federal department is further warning of "slippery and hazardous" roads as a result, potentially leading to rush hour traffic jams. It advises postponing non-essential travel.

2023 will start off wet and unseasonably warm, according to Environment Canada. Whether it's mere happenstance, a harbinger of impending climate doom or a portent of a gloomy twelve months ahead, the New Year's Day Montreal weather likely won't help residents' anxiousness about 2023. A recent Leger survey revealed that only 34% of Quebecers think it will be better than 2022.

It looks so far like Quebecers are in for a full week of positive daytime temperatures. And we're mostly not talking about temps hovering around the freezing point. Environment Canada forecasts a high of 8 C on both Friday, December 30, and Saturday, December 31, and 5 C on Sunday, January 1, 2023.

Temper whatever hopes you had for a White Christmas; it's gonna be a nail-biter. The Montreal weather forecast for the remainder of the holiday season is coming into clearer view and doesn't look too promising.

As of the time of writing, the Environment Canada forecast for Monday, December 19 through Wednesday, December 21 shows sunny skies and highs at or just below the freezing points, from -2 C to 0 C. That means there could be snow on the ground through at least Thursday, December 22, when the federal meteorological agency so far predicts a high of 1 C and additional snowfall.

The first big winter storm of the season could be imminent. MétéoMédia is tracking two systems that it says could hit a high-pressure wall over Quebec, forcing them to slowly "drag" over the province and unload copious precipitation.

The site explained Monday that one of those systems remains "volatile" and could change course, and, at the time of writing, Environment Canada hasn't issued any storm alerts for southern Quebec. But if all goes as MétéoMédia says it might, we could be in for up to 30 centimetres of snow this week.

Our chances of white Christmas may have just increased. After an unusually warm start to December, the Montreal weather forecast shows the first significant snowfall of the season is on its way this week.

The Environment Canada forecast shows snow beginning the night of Thursday, December 15. However, that precipitation could also manifest as rain. Either way, the snow is really projected to start on Friday, December 16. Despite projected temperatures hovering around freezing on Friday, as much as 10 centimetres could fall on the city over the course of the day, according to The Weather Network.

Environment Canada forecasts a high temperature of 23 C with a balmy humidex value ("feels-like" temperature) of 28(!).
