street food montreal

Montreal summers are notorious for being overloaded with festivals. But, lately, it seems like food festivals in particular have been taking the cake (pun intended), with a new one cropping up each weekend — and we're definitely not mad at it.

The latest Montreal food event, which is set to kick off this Thursday, features international street eats from countries including Spain, Korea, Vietnam, Japan, Mexico, the Philippines, Thailand, Laos, the Caribbean, Venezuela and more.

Montreal's favourite Korean street food festival, POCHA MTL, is coming back to Griffintown this summer with four days of delicious eats, live K-pop performances, colourful Hanbok (traditional Korean outfits) and more.

This year, organizers say there will be 27+ culinary booths, 25+ exhibitors and 10+ cultural activities — all for a super low price of admission: $5 at the door or $4 in advance on Zeffy. Plus, they'll actually waive the entry fee and let you in for free if you wear Hanbok or you're the 'parent' of a Pomeranian, Poodle or Bichon Frisés. The fest is also free for children and seniors.

You don't have to travel to Taiwan to experience the magic (and deliciousness) of an Asian night market — from the vibrant colours to the aromatic scents to the lively sounds. In fact, you don't have to go any further than Montreal's local T&T Supermarché in Ville Saint-Laurent.

Building on the success of the inaugural event last year, T&T Montreal's Asian night market, in collaboration with Marché de Nuit Asiatique, will be doubling in size when it returns this month. That means 100+ mouthwatering dishes from more than 30 restaurants and stores — and, yes, lots of street food!

This week Montreal's food scene is introducing some unexpected combinations. A Chinatown restaurant is serving rice burgers that reimagine the traditional bun. Kraft Heinz is making sure no bowl is left behind with new plant-based and gluten-free versions of Canada's favourite comfort food. And when it comes to spring desserts in the city, you can definitely put all your eggs in one basket. Mini egg treats are making a seasonal comeback.

Here are the tasty highlights:

Montreal's Chinatown is about to get a lot more animated. For four nights, street food will entice alongside street art, giving the city a taste of Asia like never before. This year's Marché de Nuit Asiatique promises a celebration not just of the palate but also of the eyes, as the night market collaborates with the international street art festival MURAL.

From August 24 to 27, Sakura Garden on the Palais des congrès Esplanade and Place Sun-Yat-Sen will turn into a panorama of sights, sounds, and aromas. Attendees can expect to be swept up in a whirlwind of pan-Asian street food vendors, serving skewers, noodles, stir-fries, and more. Live art installations will provide a visual feast, while pulse-pounding performances, from traditional dance to modern music, will resonate with Montreal's multicultural spirit.

Montreal’s Marché Asiatique, taking place in Chinatown and running Thursday to Sunday until October 2, has a not-so-secret double life. For two weekends this summer, the spot will turn into a full-on night market with over 20 participating food vendors.

The night market will run from July 28 to 31 and August 25 to 28 at the same location as the Marché Asiatique, at the Place des souhaits. Vendors will include beverage store Yifang Fruit Tea and Zoe Dessert, which serves sweet treats including bubble waffles and shaved ice.
