Montreal's Metro has been running like clockwork since the 1960s, but there's more happening underground than most STM transit riders realize.

From train cars that clean to secret codes, the city's subway network is packed with fascinating facts that would surprise even the most seasoned STM riders.

Hello there, Montreal Star Wars fans. With Star Wars Day fast approaching on May 4, we thought it only right to say, "May the fourth be with you" — and we're not the only ones who have started celebrating.

The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) has updated its Montreal metro map for the occasion, giving the names of our city's underground stations Star Wars-themed makeovers.

Montreal's STM is at it again, and this time they're playing Cupid with the metro map. The Société de transport de Montréal has slapped a fresh coat of love-themed puns on station signs, just in time for Valentine's Day. Whether you're a cynic or a sap, you can't help but crack a smile — or roll your eyes.

Jolicoeur, already the flirt of the network, didn't need much of a makeover to fit the lovey-dovey theme. Lionel-Groulx, with its usual gravitas, has been rebranded as Lionel-Chou because who wouldn't want their daily commute seasoned with a term of endearment that also means cabbage?

The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) recently posted a video to its TikTok page of random items that are collected in the Montreal Metro lost and found — ranging from shoes to rat food.

The TikTok, titled "Normal things we find in the lost and found," featured a handful of eyebrow-raising items that really make you wonder what some transit users are up to. The list of lost and found items from the Montreal Metro includes baby shoes, a door handle, a bouncy ball, cracked iPhones, mini plush dolls, kids' baseball caps and, of course, you cannot forget the rat food — adult rat food to be specific. Actually, someone did forget the rat food.

The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) has never shied away from a comical online moment, whether it be Metro stations getting Star Wars-themed names for May The 4th, or new holiday-themed station names during the winter season that are as clever as they are quirky, and this time around is no different.

The STM matched Montreal Metro stations with a number of zodiac signs and we're not going to lie… some are pretty accurate. In a two-part series titled "Your Metro station according to your zodiac sign" posted to the STM TikTok page, the transit agency hilariously paired six different zodiac signs with specific Montreal Metro stations — defending their stance with a quick (and witty) reason why and to be fair, the math was mathing.

The Société de transport de Montreal (STM) updated the Montreal Metro map to include new details and a modern design. If you managed to spot the new Metro map, then you've likely got a great set of eyes considering the switch flew right over many of our heads.

In a recent video posted to the official STM TikTok page, a commenter asked if the map had changed after noticing some differences in the clip. Turns out, it did. "Oh yes, it changed!" the STM confirmed and the new look is definitely an upgrade.

A new "pink" Montreal metro line was supposed to one day provide new rapid transit between Montréal-Nord, downtown and Lachine. More than six years after Mayor Valérie Plante and her party, Projet Montréal, began campaigning on the proposal to radically expand the metro network, Plante says the project is beginning to take shape — though it hardly resembles the original plan.

Here's the recent history of the proposal, how it has changed and where it could go from here.

Creative the STM social media team is. The Montreal metro map got a Star Wars-themed makeover to mark May the Fourth, the unofficial holiday celebrating the beloved sci-fi franchise. Now, if only the metro could move at light speed...

The reimagined map replaces all 68 real station names with Star Wars puns. Pie-IX becomes "C3Pie-IX." Lionel-Groulx is rechristened "Lionel-Grogu." "Chewbaccadie" replaces Acadie. Georges-Vanier is designated "Georges-Lucas."

Montreal metro riders who take the blue line should plan for travel disruptions on Sunday, April 30. The Société des Transports de Montréal (STM) will close six stations for accessibility work at Édouard-Montpetit station between 5:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The Montreal metro's blue line extension is coming — more slowly than the 24 bus during rush hour, but it's coming! For years, Montrealers have suffered the slow drip of information about the transformative project. The first metro extension in decades, it's set to reshape transportation along a huge swath of the city.

Now, finally, it appears the final pieces of the extension-planning puzzle are falling into place.

With four lines and 68 stations, the Montreal metro has a pretty good rep, and rightfully so, considering it's one of the best public transit systems in North America. Now, while the metro gets you where you need to be in decent time, things aren't always smooth sailing.

Whether it's too hot, too crowded or too dirty, there are a few Montreal metro stations that have certainly rubbed many Montrealers the wrong way.
