Montreal is known as the 'Europe of North America' for good reason. The historic architecture, world-renowned food, and French language can make you feel like you're experiencing a day in the beautiful city of Paris — if you know the right spots, that is.

This means you don't need a plane ticket to live out your very own Emily in Paris fantasy, a show which — by the way — returns to Netflix on Thursday for the second part of its fourth season.

Nothing says "summer's here!" like Montreal's highly anticipated Canadian Grand Prix weekend. This year, you can get close to the F1 ® action at the new Festival Heineken® — a free-to-enter event at the Grand Quay of the Port of Montreal, open June 7-9 and boasting a massive viewing screen, food trucks, music performances and more.

Bringing fans together in the heart of Montreal, Heineken — official global beer partner of the F1 — is putting on this massive event to share the thrill and excitement of the Canadian Grand Prix with everyone, even if you don’t have a ticket to the race itself.

The Montreal Old Port has released its summer 2023 program, a long list of activities, spectacles and events to draw visitors to the sprawling waterside attraction. Among them, and starting this Wednesday, July 19, is the return of the Grand PoutineFest, a roving troop of food trucks offering unique takes on the beloved Quebec folk dish.

New this year is a beer zone, so attendees can wash down their mountains of fries, cheese, gravy and sure-to-be-wild toppings with local brews.

On August 13, the Montreal Old Port's Holi festival will be back for its third edition, so Montrealers can add some colour to their lives... and their clothes!

Run by the organization Festival of India, which counts among its sponsors the High Commission of India in Canada, our local Holi is inspired by the well-known Hindu tradition usually celebrated in March. The colour-throwing festival — where participants throw pigmented water or powder at each other — welcomes the arrival of spring and the triumph of good over evil.

Local birds are sharpening their talons and taking names. A video posted to TikTok shows a pair of birds mercilessly dive-bombing unsuspecting passersby at the corner of rues Saint-André and de la Commune in the Montreal Old Port.

The video, taken by Montrealer Aya Chraibi (aya.chr97 on TikTok), shows the furious flurry of beaks and feathers chasing pedestrian after pedestrian away from their domain of streetside trees and construction scaffolding.

Montreal's weekly summer fireworks display returned on June 25 and you'll want to find the best vantage point to catch the spectacular shows over the Saint Lawrence River. One of the more unique spots is the Clock Tower Beach in the Old Port, where you'll not only have an unobstructed view of the colourful explosions as they light up the night sky, but a three-hour live DJ show, and access to a bistro that serves food and drinks.

Tickets to attend the The Sky Belongs to the DJ Evenings go for $7 online. At each show (schedule below) you'll be able to dip your toes in the sand starting at 7 p.m., watch the sun go down, and enjoy a meal to the soundtrack of a local DJ. The fireworks begin at 10 p.m. and last about half an hour.
