Since July 2020, the Quebec government has made masks across the province mandatory in all public places. Well, nearly two years later, the COVID-19 Quebec mask mandate has officially been dropped.

While it was originally meant to be lifted in mid-April, the mask mandate in Quebec was extended following a bump in cases during the virus' sixth wave.

At a press conference on Friday, February 11, federal Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos described the conditions that would make "living with the virus" possible in Canada.

Officials have begun to throw the phrase around to describe the next phase of health measures. In a remarkable move, Quebec Premier François Legault said on February 8 that a slow withdrawal of many of the most stringent restrictions means that Quebecers could see something resembling a "more normal life" by mid-March.

If you've had COVID-19 recently, Quebec has a new official recommendation for when to get a third dose of a vaccine — and it may be sooner than you thought.

Either get vaccinated or risk getting sick — that's the message from Health Minister Christian Dubé as Quebec contends with an unprecedented surge in COVID-19 infections. On Tuesday, he asked the unvaccinated to consider the burden they're placing on the health care system.

"You should know that it's largely unvaccinated people who find themselves in intensive care and who are currently fighting for their lives," he said at a press conference.

Even though Quebec decided to scrap mandatory vaccination for health care workers, there are still conditions unvaccinated employees in the sector must follow. Since Health Minister Christian Dubé announced a series of measures for staff who have not received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, 527 people have been suspended without pay, according to a recent Santé Quebec tweet.

In a press conference on November 3, Dubé said "vaccination of health care workers will no longer be mandatory for current employees of the network and will be mandatory for all new employees. Secondly, public health requires a very rigorous screening of all unvaccinated employees [...] three times a week."

"Beggars can't be choosers" seems to be the government's approach to mandatory vaccinations for health care workers. Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé announced Wednesday that the province will let unvaccinated health sector employees continue to work after November 15 — the date by which workers were supposed to be adequately vaccinated or face suspension.

That was already an extension. The original deadline for health and social service workers to get their COVID-19 vaccine was October 15.

Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé has announced that the province has postponed its mandatory vaccination deadline for health and social service workers for one month only. The deadline was previously October 15.

"Under the circumstances, postponing the 30-day deadline is the best solution to ensure the continuity of services and not to add more pressure on our network, and more particularly on its staff," Dubé said in a statement.
