11 Household Items Have Been Recalled Across Canada & You Could Be Eligible For A Refund
Health Canada has recalled several household items sold online and in stores across Canada that pose a serious health and safety risk to Canadian consumers. The federal agency has recalled items for reasons including injury hazards, strangulation and choking hazards, chemical hazards and improper product labelling.
Several recalled products have been sold at Canadian stores including Home Depot, Pharmaprix (Shopper's Drug Mart), Shell, Wayfair Bed Bath & Beyond and Amazon. It's important to verify if you have any recalled items. If so, Health Canada is urging Canadian consumers to immediately stop using the affected products, and to follow the instructions for a refund or to fix the product issue.

Recall Reason: Per the Health Canada recall page, the affected products "do not meet the labelling requirements or the leak test requirements for consumer chemical products in the Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001 under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act."

Recall Reason: A potential risk arises when the power cord is damaged in the vicinity of the cord bushing, potentially causing the cord to overheat. This overheating poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers. Furthermore, damage to the cord near the bushing may expose copper wires, creating a shock hazard, per Health Canada.

Recall Reason: According to the recall page, when the Bugaboo Dragonfly Stroller is unfolded with the seat in the "parent-facing" position and the backrest is unfolded directly into a horizontal position instead of the fully upright position, it may not be properly secured. This could lead to the seat backrest moving past its intended stopping point, posing a risk of injury to an unharnessed child. As of December 5, 2023, there have been no reported injuries in Canada.

Recall Reason: Incorrectly opening the product from the front or smaller side during use can lead to it falling, posing a potential injury hazard. Additionally, if the product is not anchored to the wall when closed and stored, it may tip over, presenting potential tip-over and entrapment hazards.
What You Need To Do: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and contact J Grubb Designs LLC to schedule a free home repair of the bed by a technician. J Grubb Designs is contacting all known purchasers directly. If you are unable to have this repair installed via technician, please contact J Grubb Designs to arrange the return of the product for a refund.

Recall Reason: The potential hazard arises when an internal screw falls between the cover rib and the cell printed circuit board, leading to a short circuit and posing a fire risk. As of November 7, 2023, the company has not received any reports of incidents or injuries in Canada. In the United States, there are no reported incidents or injuries associated with this issue.
What You Need To Do: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Lenovo USB-C Laptop Power Banks and contact Lenovo for a free replacement as well as instructions for properly disposing of lithium-ion batteries according to local municipal hazardous waste requirements.

Recall Reason: Per Health Canada, "the cooktop’s burners can remain on after being turned to the “off” position, posing a burn hazard to consumers. As of December 1, 2023, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada."
What You Need To Do: Consumers should contact MC Commercial to arrange for free installation of a replacement burner knob assembly. When not in use, turn the unit off at the circuit breaker. Do not leave flammable materials or empty cookware on or near the cooktop. In the affected units, the burner can remain on following use even after being turned to the “off” position. In this case, the “On” indicator light will not be illuminated, but the “Hot Cooktop” light corresponding to the burner will remain illuminated until power to the cooktop is turned off at the breaker switch.

What You Need To Do: Health Canada is urging consumers to "immediately stop using the recalled product and contact Groupe Marcelle Inc. for a refund. Canadian consumers can contact Groupe Marcelle Inc. by telephone at 1-800-665-4531 ext. 1500 between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. EST. If no agent is available, consumers can leave a voicemail message with the following information: recall number RAP07072.

What You Need To Do: Consumers in possession of the recalled Christmas tree should immediately unplug the tree and return it to their local Home Depot Canada store for a full refund, per the recall warning page.
