It's the final stretch before spring — thank goodness! But that doesn't mean you have to wait indoors for temps to rise and the snow to melt. The worst is behind us and now it's time to make the most of the last bits of winter.

Our city has so much to offer, and even if it's still freezing, you can still find the motivation to get dressed and get out.

Film noir au Canal, a festival of dark hard-boiled dramas, is returning for the first time in three years with free movie screenings along the Lachine Canal this summer. Since MTL Blog first reported on its comeback, organizers have released a few more details about the highly-anticipated event.

Like previous editions, Film noir au Canal 2022 will take place in Square Saint-Patrick, a park between the canal and rue Wellington in Pointe-Saint-Charles. Live musical performances and presentations by genre experts will set the mood as attendees set up in the shadow of the rusting bridges and brick edifices of the former industrial corridor.

Film noir au canal is back! Since 2015, the event has celebrated hard-boiled police dramas with free outdoor movie screenings on the banks of Montreal's Lachine Canal.

The pandemic forced its cancellation in 2020 and 2021, but organizers confirmed with MTL Blog that it will return between July 17 and August 21, 2022. More details, including the program, are forthcoming.

The city has announced the Montreal streets which will be pedestrianized for the summer of 2022. Since social distancing requirements inspired the city to block off extra space for residents in 2020, the summer pedestrian thoroughfares have become somewhat of a staple.

Terrasses line the sidewalks, shop owners put up stalls on the curb, and Montrealers can enjoy pleasant strolls without the noise, danger, and pollution of vehicular traffic.

Pedestrianized streets became a citywide phenomenon in the summer of 2020 when social distancing requirements inspired the city to create more space for foot traffic.

"Boroughs, business owners, residents, customers, passers-by and tourists appreciate the quality of life offered by pedestrianization projects," Mayor Plante said in the release.

There's a little bit of holiday magic in every nook and cranny of Montreal. Verdun's "Enchanted Alley" is back again this year off rue Wellington with a whole new setup.

While last year the alley took the form of a forest walk up to the charming façade of a log cabin, organizers opted for a cozy interior scene for the 2021 season. Visitors will now find a large (faux) fireplace complete with a Christmas tree and a big red chair.
